SMUKI (SMU Komunitas Indonesia) has always endeavoured to carry out its mission, which is to bring Indonesian culture closer to the hearts of the Singapore Management University (SMU) community and to foster a close relationship with the Indonesian community in Singapore through various activities.

One implementation of our attempts to fulfil this mission was through GAYA (Gelar Budaya) 2008, which proved to be a success in introducing the Indonesian culture to not only the SMU community but also to the audience in general. Following last year's success, SMUKI decided to bring this annual musical production to a higher level, in terms of level of members' participation and size of target audience, just to name a few.

This year, in a bid to help others in need, GAYA 2009 committee is working alongside Maria Monique Last Wish Foundation, an international charity organization based in Jakarta, in making the musical production. Maria Monique Last Wish Foundation focuses on fulfilling the last wish of unfortunate children suffering terminal illness aged between 5 – 15 years old. The foundation has helped to fulfil such wishes from about 4,300 children from Indonesia, China, India, Vietnam, and South Africa from May 2007 to September 2008. Their missions still continue and we are here to aid them too.
